Business Development Principal, New Ventures | Southern Company

Paulo Albuquerque is Business Development Principal for New Ventures at SCS. Paulo is responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders for the implementation of business opportunities for Southern Company. Prior to joining New Ventures, he was the Area Manager for Georgia Power Southeast region, directly responsible for GA Power External and Community Affairs and provided leadership for Distribution, Economic Development and Sales in Brian, Camden, Glynn, McIntosh, and Liberty Counties. He was also responsible for the leadership of Georgia Power’s Energy Services team for the Southeast Region.

Prior to becoming an Area Manager, he was the ITAAC Manager for Southern Nuclear, having led the organization from September 2013 through March 2016. Albuquerque was responsible for leading and overseeing an integrated organization between company Contractors and Southern Nuclear for the development, implementation, completion, and maintenance for this newly created regulatory process for the Vogtle 3&4 project.

His career began in the commercial construction industry in Brazil, manufacturing in North Carolina and commercial civil design in Georgia. He joined Southern Nuclear (SNC) in 2008 in the plant modifications department at Vogtle 1 & 2 as a design engineer.

In 2010, he joined the Nuclear Development organization as a senior licensing engineer supporting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff.

In 2011, he served as the Construction Monitoring Supervisor ensuring proper implementation of the Construction Monitoring Program before being named Assistant to the Georgia Power Executive Vice President and President of Southern Nuclear Development. In 2012, Albuquerque served as the Nuclear Development Performance Improvement Manager.

A native of Recife, Brazil, Albuquerque received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Univix University in 2003, and his MBA from FGV University in 2005, both in Brazil. He also completed the MIT Sloan Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership and INPO Emerging Leaders, both in 2013. Albuquerque also served on several board of directors, including: Chamber of Commerce (Glynn, McIntosh, and Camden Counties), Brunswick and Glynn County Economic Dev. Authority - serving as Chairman, College of Coastal Georgia Foundation, Safe Harbor, and Coastal Pines Technical College.

Albuquerque is married and has four children.
