John Smola

Director of New Development & Growth | Alabama Power

John Smola is Director of New Development & Growth at Alabama Power Company. He is responsible for new diversified revenue growth while leading and designing the Company’s growth strategies, innovation, and corporate venturing efforts. John started his career at Alabama Power in 2008, having held various roles in marketing, regulatory, and external affairs. John is actively engaged in the entrepreneurial community and how Alabama can transition itself into a more technology-driven economy. He serves on the boards of Alabama Capital Network and Birmingham Venture Club and is currently a Catalyst Fellow for the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham. John is also a member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham and graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 2007 and completed a Master of Business Administration with Beta Gamma Sigma honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2011.
