Rose Galactic is building an electromagnetic cannon to launch small satellites into orbit. They will be launching Cubesats for universities, small 10cm cubes with a maximum weight of 3.2lbs. 300 Cubesats were launched last year; each of those launch slots cost anywhere from $40k to $120k+ per slot. Rose Galactic is planning to debut their launcher with an initial price of $5k; the lower price will galvanize the industry to create a more satellites, universities will be able to conduct more experiments, and creating a cubesat will suddenly be feasible for high school and grade school students as well as hobbyists.
